Documents differ by property and location. Before paying, ask the seller to show the documents that relate to the property and have them reviewed independently.

• Ask who owns the property and what authority the seller has to sell it.
• Ask for the survey plan and compare the measurements and boundaries with the site.
• Ask what title or ownership documents exist, and have a qualified property lawyer explain them to you.
• Ask for the agreement you will sign, read it fully, and ask about every fee and condition.
• Keep copies of everything and receipts for every payment.
